Maltipoo Colors

Quick answer: The most common Maltipoo colors are white, cream, apricot and red. Less common colors include black, brown (chocolate), silver and gray, and popular patterns include parti (white with patches), phantom, tuxedo and merle. Because the Maltese is always white, most of the color in a Maltipoo comes from the Poodle parent, and light colors like apricot and red often fade a little as the puppy grows.

Maltipoos come in a variety of colors from solid black, brown, red, apricot colors to multi colored like parti or merle. To see examples of different colors we have gotten from our past litters, scroll down and view the gallery grouped by different Maltipoo colors.

Cream Maltipoos

Cream is one of the most popular Maltipoo colors. It is a soft ivory shade that can look almost white, and some puppies have light apricot ears. See more in our cream Maltipoo gallery.

Apricot Maltipoos

Apricot Maltipoos have a warm peach or light orange coat. Apricot is very popular and often lightens during the first year. Learn more about apricot Maltipoos.

White Maltipoos

White comes straight from the Maltese side and is one of the most common Maltipoo colors. White coats need a daily face wipe to prevent tear stains. See our white Maltipoo gallery.

Brown Maltipoos

Brown or chocolate Maltipoos are less common and come from a brown Poodle parent. The coat can lighten to a café au lait or silver beige shade over time.

Parti Maltipoos

Parti Maltipoos are at least half white with large patches of another color, like black, brown or apricot. Every parti puppy has its own one of a kind markings. See our black and white Maltipoo gallery for more.

Black Maltipoos

Solid black Maltipoos are less common because the Maltese parent is white. Some black Maltipoos slowly fade to gray or silver as they age because of the Poodle fading gene.

Merle Maltipoos

Merle Maltipoos have a marbled coat with darker patches, often with blue or partly blue eyes. Merle is one of the rarest Maltipoo patterns, and a responsible breeder will never breed two merle dogs together.

Maltipoo Color FAQ

What is the rarest Maltipoo color?

Merle, solid black and chocolate are the rarest Maltipoo colors. White, cream and apricot are the most common.

Do Maltipoo puppies change color?

Many do. Apricot and red puppies often lighten, and black or brown puppies can fade to gray or silver as they age. Read more about Maltipoo color changes.

Does color affect a Maltipoo's size or personality?

No. Size depends on the parents, not the coat color, and personality is the same no matter the color.
